About

Montana Wildlife, Observed.

Wildlife.mt makes Montana wildlife easier to observe, record, understand and protect — while creating a sustainable marketplace for photography, publishing, software and data services.

Mission

An independent Montana wildlife platform: an open observation registry at the core, species guides for public value, and photography, books and licensing to pay for both.

We are Montana-rooted, scientifically grounded, respectful of people, Tribal nations, landowners and wildlife, and useful before promotional.

Methodology

Claims, maps and reports disclose sources, confidence, methodology and limitations. Observed fact, calculated result, interpretation and opinion are kept distinct.

Effort and coverage are considered so increased reporting is not confused with increased wildlife. Exact sensitive locations never enter public products.

Data policy

You choose who sees your record: public or private. That is the only privacy setting, and it means exactly what it says.

How precisely a protected animal’s location can be shown is a separate question, and it is not a setting. If a species is listed as a Montana Species of Concern, Threatened, or Endangered, its location is generalized on every public surface regardless of what the observer selected. We always err coarse. A precise nest, den, or roost coordinate is the exact thing that gets an animal harassed, poached, or trampled by a hundred photographers.

Observers retain rights to their original photographs and field notes. Every import stores its source system, source record ID, license and permitted uses.

Sensitive-species policy

Exact sensitive coordinates must never appear in public page source, client-side JSON, analytics URLs, image metadata, error logs or search indexes. Public generalization occurs on the server before the response is created.

Nest, den, roost and similar records use watershed, county or intentionally generalized public geometry only.

Privacy

Account, session and observation data are handled under documented retention and correction rules. Public pages minimize personal data. Structured logs omit unnecessary personal information and exact sensitive coordinates.

Terms

Use of public content is for lawful observation, education and conservation understanding. Commercial reuse of photographs and data requires appropriate license. Bulk or commercial reuse of registry data requires written permission.

Conservation

Revenue from prints, books and licensing pays for the infrastructure that keeps public observation tools and reports independent and improving. Deep eagle conservation publishing also lives on Eagle.mt as the focused brand.

Cultural stewardship

The logo includes Native imagery alongside Montana wildlife and Western history. That imagery is handled deliberately and respectfully. Wildlife.mt does not imply Tribal ownership, approval or representation without permission.
